PROJECT AWARDS

Ludwig was fortunate to be working in central London during the unprecedented period of public realm transformation leading up to the London 2012 Olympics. Pedestrian priority was a key focus and mid-twentieth century vehicle dominated schemes were being replaced. Ludwig held key roles in projects that increased pedestrian space in accordance with pedestrian volumes and desire lines while also enhancing public transport function and business servicing and delivery efficiency.

Public realm integrated anti-terror infrastructure became a government priority after the 2005 London bombs at which point Ludwig became Lead Landscape Architect for the Whitehall Streetscape Improvement Project. He worked with his mentor Peter Heath to sensitively integrate the security line within the urban rooms prescribed by the adjacent historic facades, gently influencing a broad multidisciplinary team with a tight deadline.

Prior to this Ludwig delivered intuitive in-ground LED wayfinding at Waterloo Bus and Train Stations, a first for publicly owned land in London as part of the award winning Light at the End of the Tunnel project. His vision and action plan for the Clerkenwell area of London (where he lived) was the winner of a 2008 Royal Landscape Institute Award. As a proven Public Realm Specialist he was involved in other Place Shaping projects such as the innovative diagonal crossing at Oxford Circus and the undoing of the Piccadilly, St James’s St, Pall Mall, Haymarket and Piccadilly Circus gyratory, all of which unlocked space for Ludwig’s Placemaking projects from 2012.
