ALBERT STREET STATION FORECOURT (IMAGE – CONCEPT ONLY)

Scope

Ludwig was contracted to Arup as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to undertake reviews of multiple design stages over an eight month period, including the Roma and Albert Streets, Woolloongabba and Boggo Road station forecourts.

Project Bio

Ludwig provided expert advice on upon the designs as they relate to all technical aspects of public realm design and delivery, with a particular focus on safety, universal accessibility, tree protection, maintenance implications, servicing and access to PUP services, and activation and alfresco dining provisions and implications. An interrelated set of performance specifications related to aboriginal cultural heritage, biodiversity enhancement and the subjective term ‘world class’ became a key focus. Through a series of workshops Ludwig delicately defined ‘world class’ using international examples, consistently relating these back to the local regulatory context. Precedents explored included London’s Olympic Park, which had biodiversity at the heart of the vision, and London’s Wild West End Initiative which represented ‘the sum of many small gestures’, both projects of which Ludwig was involved in.
