Scope

A public realm improvement project through placemaking strategy, planning approvals, licences and legal and management agreements, bespoke innovative street furniture design and delivered high quality alfresco terraces in a grade 1 listed environment.

Project Bio

A comprehensive strategy resulting in coordinated alfresco terraces for multiple F&B and hotel venues, including innovative socketed cantilevered umbrellas and historic barriers as well as movable bronze barrier planters. Many additional sub projects and options were explored, including for the southern section of Waterloo Place as well as the central island created as part of the public realm improvements. Of particular note were proposals for a temporary alfresco venue adjacent to the Crimea Memorial featuring a ‘floating’ demount-able pavilion, with its design inspired by poppy wreaths and manufactured from bronze plate and ETFE gas filled pillows, explored for installation in 2014, the 100 year anniversary of the start of WWI as an initiative to make the empty space greener and more active.
