A WATG PROJECT.
Villa dei Fiori is situated a half a kilometre from the Al Farabi Park Project and is located near the Essentai Park on Al Farabi Road, Almaty Kazakhstan. The first phase of the development was launched in May 2012 with a gala event attended by the great and good of Almaty. Strengths – Existing phase a high quality precedent. – Good site access. – Well connected to main Almaty districts. – Long site maximizes frontage. Weaknesses – Various site boundaries confine the site. – Large overall area requirement. – Views from the site are limited. Challenges – Climatic design considerations. – Integration with phase one. – Softening the overall mass. – Creating inward looking courtyards to supplement views. Creating a luxury shopping destination in the context of the above-mentioned constraints was achieved by taking a landscape led approach to the site layout and architectural treatment. Soft landscape, and in particular sculptured lawns have been used to disguise much of the bulk of the lower level Spa that sits above-ground. This approach has minimised the bulk of the architecture so phase 2 resembles the secondary structures that may accompany an Italian Villa. Stepped lawns and performance spaces also annimate the development and draw ultra high net worth individuals to all stores even in winter where covered routes and fires pits provide warmth. Also featured are mixed perennial borders, a style not seen before in Kazakhstan and fully researched for viability in that climate.
